Weaving Tradition and Community Together

At Lehvallée, we know the origin of our raw material, handling every step from spinning and dyeing to hand-weaving in our studio in Leh. We honour traditional methods and ancestral know-how, as they are the very essence of what sets us apart and enables us to achieve results of unparalleled purity, quality and authenticity.

Spinning

Creating our cashmere yarn is a delicate and meticulous process that requires significant experience and expertise to transform this fibre into a yarn that is both light and robust. Traditionally, this knowledge and skill are passed down by the women in the region. Thus, our cashmere fibre is entrusted to over hundred women in the remote villages who work meticulously and at their own pace, mostly during cold winter months.

Yak khully yarns are produced in the same tradition, always handspun by the local women community. We take great pride in their work.

Colors & Dyes

Cashmere and wool come in three natural shades: white, beige and gray-brown, while yak fibre is available in light grey or brow- black. Some of our designs feature the unaltered beauty of these fibres, where the subtle interplay of the original tones and traditional patterns highlights the material’s inherent quality.

For certain designs, we use colors derived from natural pigments sourced from local plants, such as walnets, carnations, lichen, rhubarb, and other more endemic and secret.

Weaving

All our pieces are hand-woven on traditional looms following ancestral methods. The finesse and texture of each item depend on the dexterity of the weavers, making every piece almost unique. We are driven by an unwavering commitment to quality, reflecting our deep passion for our craft.
